今年奥运会一个明显的亮点,就是打破了以往多年的限制,允许获奖运动员用手机自拍进行线上传播。而独家赞助手机的三星,在巴黎奥运及残奥村的三星奥运体验馆“Olympic™️ rendezvous @ Samsung”,向近17,000名运动员以及奥运大家庭赠予了三星Galaxy Z Flip6奥运版手机,一下子让行业对折叠屏手机的关注重新成为了热点。
近日华为余承东先生在航班上使用三折叠屏手机的图片也在媒体曝光,透露了华为三折叠手机的最新进展。这不是余承东先生第一次对外透露三折叠屏手机信息了,此前已经多次在访谈节目和微博等平台上,发表华为三折叠屏手机的消息。
据国家知识产权局中国专利公告显示,华为在2023年2月21日申请了三折叠屏手机专利,专利申请的是一种折叠屏设备,由第一壳体、第二壳体、第三壳体、第一铰链、第二铰链和柔性屏组合,根据组合形式不同,涉及到四种不同形态。这款手机采用了Z字型折叠结构,其中一块屏幕的外侧配备了摄像头,而另外两块屏幕则设计有凸起和凹陷,可能用于屏幕的锁定机制。
华为在专利申请中表示,华为希望通过多个不等厚度的壳体,降低折叠手机重量和厚度,实现更好的握持感。
自华为手机的芯片供应出现问题后,华为也成为了自己以前瞧不起的小改造手机商,把更多的精力放在的玩摄像头和屏幕的花样上。不过随着华为把芯片制程更改回中国本土企业支持的制程,并实现了批量出货,加上华为定制的鸿蒙系统也开始在华为手机上进行适配,华为手机卷土重来的消息,也一直成为行业热议的话题。
不过在芯片制程与鸿蒙系统的限制下,华为手机的受众并没有明显的扩张,因此华为在通过外形差异化来实现增加销量的措施,也一直持续了下来,其中通过加大折叠手机的资源倾斜与营销力度,也是华为手机的主要手段之一。
所以2019年华为发布首款5G折叠屏手机华为Mate X开始,5年来华为手机发布了10款左右折叠屏手机,覆盖了横向外折、横向内折、竖向小折叠等多种形态。
华为这款三折叠将是全球首个双铰链内外三折叠,展开后的屏幕大小在 10 英寸左右。有业界消息人士从供应链获得的信息称,华为的三折叠屏手机已经通过了28μm UTG测试,折痕控制表现出色。
而这个折痕控制一直是为华为提供ODM代工厂商遇到了难题之一,也是华为三折叠屏手机发布时间延后的原因。
28μm UTG厚度低于业界常用的30μm或35μm,这也意味着AMOLED显示屏厂商要寻找适应性更好的OCA光学胶,并对AMOLED的结构与功能材料进行更极致的优化。
UTG玻璃主要是康宁、肖特与国内的凯盛、南玻、彩虹等提供,不过由于华为受到制裁,康宁、肖特都不能供货华为,因此国内的凯盛、南玻、彩虹将成为华为的供应商。
不过折叠屏折痕问题一般是内折时限制较多,因此行业在解决了内折折叠屏手机后,其实再做三折叠手机基本上没有了量产上是障碍,更多的应该是不同折叠状态下的UI界面适配问题。
而华为的折叠手机本来就是从外折手机开始,慢慢往内折手机升级,现在能够比同行更先推出三折叠屏手机,应该是鸿蒙系统定制带来的优势。
而在可折叠显示面板上,国内几家主要的AMOLED面板厂TCL华星、京东方、维信诺、深天马都有过三折叠显示屏对外展示,TCL科技和京东方还为行业提供了ODM的样机参考设计。
在折叠屏的铰链上,华为折叠屏铰链的供应商东睦股份也对外表示,可以配合客户进行开发,而且实际上也与普通折叠手机差异不大,只要能加工普通折叠手机的厂商,不管是用CNC,还是用粉末冶金MIM,都可以组织量产,如长盈、精研、科森、福蓉等,都有相关业务。
从手机终端厂商来讲,折叠手机的推出在技术与产能上都不是障碍,成本才是各方要考量的主要问题。由于并没有只有折叠手机才能使用的高用户粘性爆款应用,折叠手机的形态怎么样变化,也只是为了满足一些小众市场需求。

According to the China patent announcement of the State Intellectual Property Office, Huawei applied for a patent for a three-fold screen mobile phone on February 21, 2023, and the patent application is a folding screen device, which is composed of a first shell, a second shell, a third shell, a first hinge, a second hinge and a flexible screen. The phone features a Z-shaped folding structure, with one screen equipped with a camera on the outside, while the other two are designed with bumps and recesses, possibly for the screen's locking mechanism.
In the patent application, Huawei said that Huawei hopes to reduce the weight and thickness of the folding phone by using multiple shells of different thicknesses to achieve a better grip.
Since the chip supply of Huawei mobile phones has problems, Huawei has also become a small modified mobile phone manufacturer that it used to look down on, focusing more on playing with cameras and screens. However, as Huawei changed the chip manufacturing process back to the process supported by local Chinese companies and achieved batch shipments, and Huawei's customized HarmonyOS system has also begun to be adapted on Huawei mobile phones, the news of Huawei's mobile phone comeback has also become a hot topic in the industry.
However, under the limitations of the chip manufacturing process and the HarmonyOS system, the audience of Huawei mobile phones has not expanded significantly, so Huawei's measures to increase sales through shape differentiation have also continued, including increasing the resource tilt and marketing efforts of folding mobile phones, which is also one of the main means of Huawei mobile phones.
Therefore, in 2019, Huawei released the first 5G folding screen mobile phone, Huawei Mate X, and in the past 5 years, Huawei mobile phones have released about 10 folding screen mobile phones, covering various forms such as horizontal outward folding, horizontal inward folding, and vertical small folding.
Huawei's triple fold will be the world's first double-hinged inner and outer triple fold, and the screen size will be about 10 inches when unfolded. According to information obtained by industry sources from the supply chain, Huawei's triple folding screen phone has passed the 28μm UTG test and has excellent crease control.
And this crease control has always been one of the problems encountered by ODM foundries for Huawei, and it is also the reason for the delay in the release of Huawei's triple folding screen mobile phone.
The thickness of 28μm UTG is lower than the commonly used 30μm or 35μm in the industry, which also means that AMOLED display manufacturers need to find OCA optical adhesives with better adaptability and optimize the structure and functional materials of AMOLED.
UTG glass is mainly provided by Corning, SCHOTT and domestic Kaisheng, CSG, Rainbow, etc., but due to the sanctions imposed on Huawei, Corning and Schott cannot supply Huawei, so domestic Kaisheng, CSG and Rainbow will become Huawei's suppliers.
However, the folding screen crease problem is generally more restricted when folding inward, so after the industry solves the problem of folding screen mobile phones with inward folding, in fact, there is basically no obstacle to mass production of three folding mobile phones, and more should be the UI interface adaptation problem in different folding states.
Huawei's folding mobile phone originally started from the outward folding mobile phone, and slowly upgraded to the inward folding mobile phone, and now it can launch a three-folding screen mobile phone earlier than its peers, which should be the advantage brought by the customization of the HarmonyOS system.
On the foldable display panel, several major AMOLED panel factories in China, TCL Huaxing, BOE, Visionox, and Shenzhen Tianma have all had three-fold display screens to the outside world, and TCL Technology and Beijing Oriental also provided ODM prototype reference designs for the industry.
On the hinge of the folding screen, Dongmu Co., Ltd., the supplier of Huawei's folding screen hinge, also said that it can cooperate with customers to develop, and in fact, it is not much different from ordinary folding mobile phones, as long as manufacturers who can process ordinary folding mobile phones, whether they use CNC or powder metallurgy MIM, they can organize mass production, such as Changying, Jingyan, Kesen, Furong, etc., all have related businesses.
From the perspective of mobile phone terminal manufacturers, the launch of folding mobile phones is not an obstacle in terms of technology and production capacity, and cost is the main issue to be considered by all parties. Since there is no high-user stickiness that can only be used by folding phones, how the shape of folding phones changes is only to meet some niche market needs.
