On August 6, the Vietnam-Korea Semiconductor Industry Cooperation Conference was held in Hanoi at the Hanoi Representative Office of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) of the Korea Embassy in Viet Nam. Representatives of a number of high-tech enterprises from Vietnam and South Korea attended the meeting.

At the meeting, experts and entrepreneurs from the two countries discussed the development of the semiconductor industry in the region and the world, as well as the experience and opportunities in expanding the cooperation network between the two countries in the semiconductor industry.

Speaking at the conference, Korea Ambassador to Viet Nam Choi Young Sam stressed the importance of the meeting and reaffirmed the sustainable economic cooperation between the two countries. Recently, the two countries have made important development achievements based on efficient economic cooperation, which has promoted the harmony of interests in the economy, trade, investment and other fields. In this way, the cooperative relations between the two countries will be further consolidated and strengthened.

Ambassador Choi Yong expressed his belief that through this meeting, bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the ROK will not only leave a mark in the traditional manufacturing field, but also point out the direction for bilateral relations in the field of high-tech. He suggested that the participants discuss relevant topics and contribute to the development and construction process of Viet Nam's semiconductor industry.

Ambassador Choi Yong stressed that the Embassy of Korea in Viet Nam and various agencies and organizations of Korea will always strive and actively fulfill their role and contribute to promoting cooperation between the two countries in the semiconductor industry.

Vu Xuan Huai, deputy director of the National Innovation Center of the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Viet Nam, said that at present, there are more than 40 chip design companies in Viet Nam, and nearly 15 companies participate in semiconductor packaging, testing and manufacturing. Among them, many companies are from Korea, such as Samsung, Hana Micron and Amkor Technology.

To create a favorable environment for the development of Viet Nam's semiconductor industry, Viet Nam has made up its mind to promote the development of this high-tech industry. In the resolutions of the Party, the National Assembly, and the government, the semiconductor industry has always been regarded as a core area to promote economic and social development in the future. Among them, the Prime Minister has established a Steering Committee for the Development of the Semiconductor Industry, with the Prime Minister as the chairman of the committee.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval of the national semiconductor industry development strategy, and at the same time formulated a proposal for the development of human resources in the semiconductor industry. In addition, Viet Nam has established a national innovation center and a number of operating IT parks, which are expected to be central to driving innovation and the development of the semiconductor industry.

Mr. Vu Xuan Huai also said that Viet Nam will focus on investing in semiconductor industry infrastructure. Recently, Viet Nam has focused on developing the national highway system, enhancing the capacity of the north-south transmission system, and ensuring the prevention of risks related to electricity that can occur in the process of participating in the semiconductor packaging self-manufacturing; Improve the logistics system of ports and airports, and concentrate on the three major high-tech parks of Hoa Lak, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.

At the meeting, semiconductor cold night development consulting experts believed that Viet Nam has a convenient geographical location, which can not only export but also accept high-tech parts including the semiconductor industry, and Viet Nam is expected to become an important part of the global semiconductor industry supply chain. Viet Nam can participate in semiconductor design or develop semiconductor chips for smart cars, chips and semiconductor packaging for mid-end technology segments, etc.
